Sénégal : une nouvelle paroisse ouvre ses portes, symbole d’une mission partagée

Avec l’ouverture de cette paroisse, située au sein du centre polyvalent Jupiter-Gueye, dont la construction a été financée par la Cevaa, l’Église protestante du Sénégal confirme sa volonté de se rapprocher des populations locales, dans une région caractérisée par une forte diversité culturelle et religieuse. Cette implantation traduit une Église attentive aux réalités du terrain et engagée dans une mission de proximité, associant annonce de l’Évangile, accompagnement pastoral et présence sociale.

Le centre polyvalent Jupiter-Gueye se veut également un lieu de vie pour les habitants. Il offre notamment un accès gratuit à l’eau potable aux populations environnantes. Pensé comme un espace de convergence communautaire, il a pour ambition de favoriser le développement d’activités éducatives, sociales et communautaires, contribuant ainsi à la dynamique locale.

Cette initiative s’inscrit dans l’accompagnement de la Cevaa auprès de ses Églises membres, notamment dans le renforcement de leur action missionnaire. L’Église protestante du Sénégal a bénéficié, à ce titre, de plusieurs formes de soutiens : formations et stages pour ses responsables, échanges de personnes au profit des jeunes et des femmes, ainsi que partages d’expériences avec d’autres Églises issues de contextes variés.

L’appui de la Cevaa se traduit également par des actions concrètes au service des communautés. Parmi elles, figure le soutien à des projets structurants, comme l’école de froid et climatisation gérée par l’Association protestante d’entraide du Sénégal (APES), bras opérationnel de l’EPS dans les domaines social et du développement. Ces initiatives contribuent à renforcer les capacités locales de l’Église et à soutenir son engagement sur le terrain.

Au-delà de l’inauguration d’un nouveau lieu de culte, la paroisse de Bignona incarne une vision : celle d’une Église enracinée dans son territoire tout en demeurant ouverte au monde. À travers cette réalisation, la Cevaa met en œuvre sa conception d’une mission partagée, fondée sur la solidarité entre Églises et sur une présence chrétienne active au cœur des sociétés.

Senegal: a new parish opens its doors, symbolizing a shared mission

The Protestant Church of Senegal (EPS) has just inaugurated a new parish in Bignona, in Casamance, in the south of the country. This event marks an important milestone in the Church’s development and is a concrete illustration of the missionary dynamic of ‘from everywhere to everywhere’ championed by our community of churches.

With the opening of this parish, located within the “Jupiter Gueye” multi-purpose center, the construction of which was funded by Cevaa, the Protestant Church of Senegal reaffirms its commitment to reaching out to local communities in a region characterized by significant cultural and religious diversity. This initiative reflects a Church that is attentive to local realities and committed to a mission of outreach, combining the proclamation of the Gospel, pastoral care and social engagement.

The “Jupiter Gueye” multi-purpose center is also intended to be a hub for residents. It offers free access to drinking water for the surrounding communities. Designed as a space for community gathering, it aims to foster the development of educational, social and community activities, thereby contributing to the local community’s vitality.

This initiative forms part of the Cevaa’s support for its member churches, particularly in strengthening their missionary work. In this regard, the Protestant Church of Senegal has benefited from various forms of support: training courses and work placements for its leaders, exchange programs for young people and women, and the sharing of experiences with other churches from diverse backgrounds.

CEVAA’s support also takes the form of concrete actions serving communities. These include support for structural projects, such as the refrigeration and air-conditioning school run by the Protestant Mutual Aid Association of Senegal (APES), the operational arm of the EPS in the social and development sectors. These initiatives help to strengthen the Church’s local capacities and support its commitment on the ground.

Beyond the inauguration of a new place of worship, the parish of Bignona embodies a vision: that of a Church rooted in its local area whilst remaining open to the world. Through this project, the Cevaa is putting into practice its concept of a shared mission, based on solidarity between Churches and on an active Christian presence at the heart of society.
