Conseil exécutif de la Cevaa 2024 - Communiqué final

Le Conseil a accueilli Guy Maillard, membre de l’Union Nationale des Eglises Protestantes Réformées Evangéliques de France (UNEPREF), suppléant au Conseil pour la région Europe et remplaçant Martin Burkhard, ancien Secrétaire du Conseil et membre de l’Eglise Evangélique Réformée du canton de Fribourg (EERF), qui a quitté le Conseil à la fin de l’Assemblée Générale 2023 à Jacqueville (Côte d’Ivoire) pour raisons professionnelles.

La région Pacifique et Amérique Latine n’est plus représentée au Conseil à la suite des démissions successives de la titulaire et de la suppléante. Le Conseil a pris la décision de faire appel à un∙e suppléant∙e d’une autre région de la Cevaa pour être de nouveau au complet.

Une fois de plus, l’obtention des visas a été très compliquée et onéreuse pour plusieurs participants et participantes. Malgré tous les efforts fournis, un membre du Secrétariat exécutif n’a pas pu assister physiquement à la rencontre à cause d’un refus de visa. Le Conseil tient à remercier toute l'équipe du Secrétariat qui, quoique restreinte, a su faire face aux demandes de la Communauté avec beaucoup d'engagement.

Au cœur de ce Conseil était la réflexion sur une nouvelle stratégie de la Communauté, entre l’être et le faire : quels sont nos objectifs, nos priorités dans les années à venir ? Même si la perte en vitesse de la puissance financière, notamment des Eglises de l’Europe, affecte considérablement le fonctionnement de la Communauté Cevaa et la met indéniablement devant l’évidence qu’elle devra évoluer vers un nouveau modèle, le contenu, les envies, les visions, « l’utopie » étaient au premier plan des réflexions. Il faut d’abord savoir ce que nous voulons avant de calculer ce que cela va coûter et chercher d’où viendront les moyens.

Le Conseil a consacré à la nouvelle stratégie une journée de travail riche d'échanges et de réflexions croisées. David Razzano, ancien pasteur baptiste et consultant, a servi d’expert sur ce chemin passionnant vers l’avenir. Il a recueilli de la matière à traiter et reviendra vers le Conseil avec les idées nécessaires à l’élaboration de la stratégie Cevaa pour 2024-2029.

Sur recommandation des Coordinations, réunies au mois de janvier à l’île Maurice, le Conseil a voté l’attribution de 6 bourses et le financement de 14 projets, dont 4 projets du PSS (Projet Solidarité-Santé) et 4 projets (ou échanges) Jeunesse.

La présence du Conseil de la Cevaa en Suisse a été l’occasion d’une rencontre avec des représentant·e·s des 7 Eglises membres de la Cevaa en Suisse romande, ainsi que des responsables de DM-Dynamique dans l’échange. La rencontre s’est passée dans un esprit de franchise fraternelle, notamment par rapport aux difficultés financières brûlantes, voire existentielles des un·e·s et des autres.

Le regard résolument orienté vers l’avenir, William Jourdan, membre de l’Union des Eglises Evangéliques Vaudoises et Méthodistes d’Italie (CEVI), a communiqué les premières préparations de son Eglise qui accueillera l’Assemblée Générale du 6 au 13 octobre 2025 à Torre Pellice, berceau des Vaudois dans les vallées du Piémont en Italie.

A la fin de la session, les participant·e·s se sont dispersées le dimanche matin pour célébrer le jour du Seigneur dans diverses paroisses de l’Eglise Réformée Evangélique du Valais (EREV), avant de regagner leurs pays respectifs.

Le Conseil tient à remercier de tout cœur le comité d’accueil et les paroisses de l’EREV pour leur dévouement chaleureux, qui a rendu très agréable le séjour de tous les participants et toutes participantes.

Cevaa Executive Council meeting 2024
Final communiqué

The Executive Council of Cevaa met on April 8-14, 2024 in Sion, capital of the canton of Valais in Switzerland.

Rev. Michel Lobo, President of the Community, and Rev. William Jourdan, Italian member of the Council, were unable to travel and took part in the Council by videoconference. At the start of the session, the Vice-President, Rev. Eléonore Bouanga Kissadi, read the President’s message; she opened the Council with Psalm 127 and closed it with Psalm 27 verse 4.

The Council welcomed Guy Maillard, member of the UNEPREF – the National Union of the Protestant Reformed Evangelical Churches of France, alternate member of the Council for the Europe region and replacing Martin Burkhard, former Secretary of the Council and member of the EERF – the Reformed Evangelical Church of the canton of Fribourg, who resigned from the Council at the end of the 2023 General Assembly in Jacqueville (Ivory Coast) for professional reasons.

The Pacific and Latin America region is no longer represented in the Council after the successive resignations of both the full member and her alternate. The Council has decided to call on an alternate from another region of the Cevaa to be complete again.

Once again, obtaining visas has been very complicated and expensive for some. Despite all efforts, a member of the Executive Secretariat was unable to physically attend the meeting due to a visa refusal. The Council would like to thank the entire team of the Secretariat which, although limited, was able to meet the Community’s demands with great commitment.

At the heart of this Council was the reflection on a new strategy for the Community, between being and doing: what are our objectives, our priorities in the years to come? Even if the loss in speed of financial power, especially for the Churches of Europe, considerably affects the functioning of the Cevaa and undeniably puts it before the evidence that it will have to evolve towards a new model, the content, desires, and visions, “Cevaa utopia”, were at the forefront of the reflections. We must first know what we want before calculating what it will cost and looking for where the means will come from.

The Council devoted to the new strategy a working day rich in exchanges and cross-reflections. David Razzano, former Baptist pastor, now consultant, served as an “expert” on this exciting path to the future. He has collected material to deal with and will come back to the Council with the ideas needed to develop the Cevaa strategy for 2024-2029.

On the recommendation of the Coordinations, gathered in January in Mauritius, the Council voted to award 6 scholarships and to finance 14 projects, including 4 PSS projects (Health-Solidarity Project) and 4 Youth projects (or exchanges).

The presence of the Cevaa Council in Switzerland was the occasion of a meeting with representatives of the 7 member Churches of the Cevaa in French-speaking Switzerland, as well as leaders of DM-“Dynamic in the exchange”. The meeting took place in a spirit of fraternal sincerity, especially in relation to the burning, even existential, financial difficulties on all sides.

Resolutely looking to the future, William Jourdan, member of the Union of the Evangelical Waldensian and Methodists Churches in Italy (CEVI), communicated on the first preparations of his Church, which will host the Cevaa General Assembly to be held on October 6-13, 2025 in Torre Pellice, birthplace of the Waldensians in the valleys of Piedmont in Italy.

At the end of the session, the participants dispersed on Sunday morning to celebrate the Lord’s Day in various parishes of the Evangelical Reformed Church of Valais (EREV), before returning to their respective countries.

The Council would like to express its heartfelt thanks to the welcoming committee and the parishes of the EREV for their warm dedication, which made the stay of all participants highly pleasant.
