Rwanda : l’église presbytérienne accueille première Consultation missionnaire conjointe
Des pasteurs actifs dans la mission, des professeurs et des théologiens de 36 pays appartenant aux organisations missionnaires CWM (Council for World Mission), UEM (United Evangelical Mission) et Cevaa (Communauté d’églises en mission) se sont retrouvés pendant quatre jours au bord du lac Kivu au Rwanda.
Généreusement accueillis par l’église presbytérienne au Rwanda en cette fin de novembre 2025, ils ont réfléchi ensemble aux enjeux missionnaires du 21e siècle.
Les participants ont constaté les catastrophes aux multiples interdépendances auxquelles le monde fait face aujourd’hui. Les interventions, les travaux d’ateliers et les échanges ont abouti à une déclaration commune. Les affirmations fortes sont entre autres :
la mission est l'action de Dieu dans la vie du monde ; notre témoignage est un service humble et désintéressé qui résiste à la domination et perturbe les systèmes niant la vie
le Saint-Esprit est l'acteur principal de la mission ; nous discernons l'Esprit partout où la vie est affirmée dans la libération, la guérison, la réconciliation et la restauration écologique,
la mission signifie réparation, repentance vis-à-vis de la complicité entre pouvoir colonial et pouvoir missionnaire, redéfinition des partenariats au-delà de la logique « donateur-bénéficiaire » et pratique de la justice restaurative.
la mission signifie solidarité planétaire, adoption de la sagesse autochtone, repentance écologique et transformation socio-écologique
Les trois organisations se sont engagées à poursuivre la réflexion, d’explorer des possibilités de partenariats et de travailler ensemble afin de fortifier les congrégations locales.

Rwanda: Presbyterian Church hosts first joint missionary consultation
‘Let your light shine’ (Matthew 5:13) – bearing witness to radical hope in times of disaster
Pastors active in mission, professors and theologians from 36 countries belonging to the missionary organisations CWM (Council for World Mission), UEM (United Evangelical Mission) and Cevaa (Community of Churches in Mission) gathered for four days on the shores of Lake Kivu in Rwanda.
Generously welcomed by the Presbyterian Church in Rwanda at the end of November 2025, they reflected together on the missionary challenges of the 21st century.
The participants noted the multiple interdependent disasters facing the world today. The presentations, workshop sessions and discussions resulted in a joint statement. Among the strong statements were the following:
• mission is God's action in the life of the world; our witness is humble and selfless service that resists domination and disrupts systems that deny life
• the Holy Spirit is the main actor in mission; we discern the Spirit wherever life is affirmed in liberation, healing, reconciliation and ecological restoration
• mission means reparation, repentance for the complicity between colonial and missionary power, redefining partnerships beyond the ‘donor-beneficiary’ logic, and practising restorative justice.
• Mission means global solidarity, embracing indigenous wisdom, ecological repentance and socio-ecological transformation.
The three organisations have committed to continuing their reflection, exploring opportunities for partnership and working together to strengthen local congregations.
