Côte d’Ivoire : l’Église méthodiste s’engage dans une nouvelle dynamique

Parmi les résolutions phares, l’évangélisation figure au centre des préoccupations et les décisions adoptées touchent l’ensemble des structures de l’Église, des communautés locales jusqu’aux instances dirigeantes.

Une délégation de l’Église est venue présentée ce jour, à la secrétaire générale de la Cevaa les objectifs 2026-2027 qui se concentrent principalement sur la mission d’évangélisation dans le nord du pays.

Dans le domaine de la formation spirituelle, une réforme importante sera mise en place. Tout candidat souhaitant exercer un ministère devra officier comme catéchiste pendant deux années avant d’accéder à une formation pastorale et théologique.

Parmi les autres décisions prises, on peut souligner le souhait de développer une collaboration entre les scouts méthodistes et les Boys and Girls Brigade (BGB) afin de renforcer les liens et les actions communes ; la réalisation d’un document de référence relatif au veuvage, pour mieux encadrer et accompagner les fidèles confrontés à cette réalité ; la création d’une mission dédiée à la diaspora méthodiste vivant en Europe et en Amérique. Cette 41e conférence ordinaire s’inscrit ainsi comme une étape clé dans l’évolution de l’Église méthodiste de Côte d’Ivoire, engagée dans une dynamique de consolidation interne et d’évangélisation. Les prochaines années permettront d’évaluer la mise en œuvre effective de ces résolutions sur le terrain.

Ivory Coast: The Methodist Church embarks on a new chapter

Following six days of work, debates and discussions chaired by Bishop Séraphin Moudé, President of the Methodist Church of Côte d’Ivoire, delegates attending the Church’s 41st Ordinary Conference adopted major resolutions and recommendations aimed at strengthening the Church’s mission and cohesion.

Among the key resolutions, evangelism is at the centre of attention, and the decisions adopted affect all structures of the Church, from local communities to the governing bodies. The objectives for 2026 and 2027 focus primarily on the mission of evangelism in the north of the country.

In the area of spiritual formation, a significant reform will be introduced. Any candidate wishing to enter the ministry will be required to serve as a catechist for two years before commencing pastoral and theological training.

Among the other decisions taken, we may highlight the desire to develop collaboration between the Methodist Scouts and the Boys and Girls Brigade (BGB) in order to strengthen ties and joint initiatives; the production of a guidance document on widowhood, to better support and accompany members facing this reality; and the creation of a mission dedicated to the Methodist diaspora living in Europe and America. This 41st Ordinary Conference thus marks a key milestone in the development of the Methodist Church of Côte d’Ivoire, which is committed to a process of internal consolidation and evangelism. The coming years will provide an opportunity to assess the effective implementation of these resolutions on the ground.
